Kota Government Museum is situated in the northern part of Kishor sagar lake. Earlier the museum was part of Jaipur's Hawa Mahal, later it was taken to Brij Vilas Palace. At present Rajasthan Government takes care of this museum.

Kota Government Museum homes rich and unique collection of artifacts that depicts a clear sight of the ancient time. Statues, weapons, manuscripts, coins and Hadoti sculpture are some of the important exhibits here. The main attraction of the museum in the large and beautiful statue of Shesh Sayi Vishnu, brought from the Baroli kingdom. This exquisitely carved elegant statue is important due to its historical significance. Besides it, some ancient sculptures and statures that date back to the 4th century Gupta period are kept here.

Kota Government museum is an ideal place for experiencing the art and culture of Rajasthan. The art and craft of Hadoti region is an important characteristic here. There is a separate section for manuscripts and paintings, where one can witness the jewels of ancient culture of India, through the miniature paintings, astrological & astronomical facts and the Vedic scriptures. You can also watch different varieties of apparels, costumes, handicrafts and many royal clangs displayed here.

Government Museum is just 3.2 km away from Kota airport and is 6 km away from Kota railway station. Frequent bus services are also available here. As Kota city is well connected with all other cities in Rajasthan, you can easily reach this famous tourist spot. The museum is open from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM in all days in a week except Friday. Even though photography is prohibited inside the museum, you can do photography with permission from the Director of Archaeology and Museums, Jaipur.
